Home Learning for 14 Jan 2022
Activity #1: Family Show and Tell
Next Friday, we will be having another show-and-tell session. The topic will be families. To facilitate this, please may I ask that you e-mail us a family photo before Friday (21st of Jan). Family photos can be e-mailed to china@westcourt.kent.sch.uk.
To prepare your child for the activity, talk about the members of your family. For example, you can talk about some of the things you like doing as a family.
Activity #2: Syllable Awareness
This week, the children learned that words are made up of syllables. They have also been practising how to segment words into syllables and counting how many syllables there are in a word.
To help them retain these skills, practise syllable clapping at home using the images below. Use the “my turn, together, your turn” approach until your child is capable of doing it independently. To do this, the adult has to model clapping to mark the syllables in words, then both adult and child have to practise them together and, finally, your child has to do it on their own.
Activity #3: Pen Disco (Vertical and Horizontal Lines)
We have introduced Pen Disco this term to help develop pencil grip and control. This week, we have been learning how to draw vertical and horizontal lines. Practise doing this at home by writing long lines or short lines (depending on your child’s mark-making ability). It is best to do this activity with your child’s favourite music playing on the background. Watch the video below as a guide or even as an accompaniment to your own activity.
