Activity #1: Chinese New Year

This year, Chinese New Year falls on the 1st of February. To mark the event next week, the children will be making Chinese lanterns and cherry blossom paintings. We will also do a dragon dance and try some Chinese snacks.

To help your child better understand what it is about, there are a few videos below that you can watch. You can also try making your own Chinese crafts such as model dragons and Chinese fans. You can also invite your child to try some Chinese food like noodles and dumplings.

Activity #2: The Tiger Who Came To Tea

With this year being the Year of the Tiger, we are going to look at the story, The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Invite your child to watch the story below.

Check that your child understood the story by asking the following questions:

  • What is the little girl’s name?
  • What does a tiger look like? (Introduce words like stripy, furry, orange, scary, etc.)
  • What did the tiger eat?
  • Why did Mummy, Daddy and Sophie go to a café?

Activity#3: Positional Language

Last term, we introduced the prepositions in, on and under. This term, the children learned about in front and behind.  Ask your child to watch the following videos to help review positional language. (*Note: You can pause the video and allow your child to describe where each object is located using the right prepositions.)
