Learning Goal:

I am learning to estimate how many objects I can see and check by counting them.




Estimating And Counting Socks: Place several socks in a basket. Ask your child to estimate how many socks there are. Ask your child: How can we tell if you are right? Then tell them to tip the socks out on the floor and count them. 


A variation of the game is to use different patterned or different coloured socks. Spread the socks on the floor and ask your child to sort them according to similar patterns or colours. Once they have grouped the socks into sets, you can ask your child to estimate how many there are in each set.

End the session by practising rote counting to 50: Count 1 to 50.
