Monday 8th February

Good morning everyone and happy Monday!

Can you believe we are already on the last Monday of Term 3?  Let's have one final push of super learning this week before the half term holiday.

Maths:

Today we are starting one of my favourite topics in maths - ratio!

Ratio is a lot of fun, we get to use our knowledge of multiples to solve problems and can also represent our learning in a lot of fun ways.

Watch this video by Miss Hart to get you started:

Year 6 - Ratio

This is "Year 6 - Ratio" by Westcourt School on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

To start with, complete this sheet in your pack:

For your second maths activity, you will need that packet of smarties (or jelly beans/ skittles o whatever your adult kindly got for you).

We are going to have a SMARTIE PARTY!!

You will need this sheet:

Remember to take pictures to show your ratios and send them in!

Guided Reading:

Today you will need the comprehension on the Railway Children.

Read the information carefully and answer the questions in full sentences.

English:

On Friday we listened to section 5 of Treasure Island and you designed your own island based on the description at the start.

For the next couple of days we will be focussing on Ben Gunn - a new character that has been introduced into the story.

Remind yourself of what happens in this chapter:

Treasure Island: Escape to the island and Ben Gunn | BBC Teach

You will need this sheet for your learning today:

Today you are going to imagine you are Ben Gunn.

You have been trapped on that island for years.  You haven't seen another person in all that time - that means no one to talk to, no interactions at all with another human being.

Around the island picture write Ben Gunn's thoughts.

These could include:

- how lonely it has felt on the island

- wondering how he will ever get home

- will he ever see another person

- what he misses the most

Then move on to:

- the first sighting of the ship off the island

- realising people are sailing towards him

- when he first meets another person

- does he have hope about getting home?

- what can he teach them about the island?

You can colour the island too smiley

Creative learning:

Today we are getting very creative to start the week!

Now we know what the island looks like, your challenge is to create your own 3D version of the island.  You can use recycled materials to do this, much like your fantastic pirate ships from last week!

You could also use lego like Jack's pirate ship.

The options are completely up to you - get as creative as you like.  I like forward to seeing your fantastic pictures laugh

There is still time to meet your AR targets, so spend time reading today.

Also make sure you spend some time on TTRockstars.

As it's Monday head over to Miss Sexton's page to watch the assembly and find out who is work of the week.

Have a fantastic day and I cannot wait to see your wonderful learning.

Miss Marshall xx
