Here are a a list of web sites that feature online shape games. Most of these games have been used in the nursery so children are familiar with them. Just click on the name and it will take you directly to each game.
Shape Monsters is a fun, interactive 2D shapes game where children need to identify and match circles, rectangles, squares and triangles. Each Shape Monster only 'eats' shapes which match its own body shape. When a child correctly selects a shape, that Shape Monster audibly reinforces the name of the shape.
Monster Mansion Shape Match helps kids to learn and practice 2D shapes. Click on the windows of the Monster Mansion to reveal the friendly monsters inside and match objects to shapes or objects to words. Children can play by memory or while seeing the objects. All shapes are supported by audio instruction. Shapes: triangle, sphere, trapezoid, cube, hexagon, crescent, cylinder, cone, heart, rhombus, half circle, circle, oval, octagon, star, pyramid, rectangle, parallelogram, square, and quarter circle. *We recommend that children focus on simple 2D shapes until they master them fully before advancing to other 2D shapes. We also suggest using 'picture to picture' mode only.
Shapes and Colors Bingo enables children to practice recognising shapes and colours in a fun way. There are three modes of play: shapes only, colours only or shapes and colours together.
The Same and Different Doughnut Game helps children practise identifying objects that are alike and not alike. Kids compare doughnuts based on shape, colour and combinations of shape and colour. After all rounds have been completed, they will get to make their own doughnut.
Shape Patterns is a fun way for kids to practise identifying patterns. Help the monster truck get across the bridge by correctly placing the missing shapes in the pattern. Each round gets a little more difficult and requires more trial and error than the previous. Kids can play one of two different modes: practice or race. Practice mode allows kids to take their time while race mode lets them play against the computer.
Shape Patterns is a sequencing game where children need to complete the pattern of different coloured 2D shapes. It is a multiple choice game with three levels of difficulty. It is excellent for shape recognition and for problem solving. In the easier levels children need to continue the pattern but in the more challenging level 3 children are presented with a sequence with the missing element in different positions. This level in particular, is an excellent problem solving activity.
Shapes Construction helps children learn basic properties of simple geometric figures. Children will practise looking for differences and similarities between shapes to complete puzzles. The game gets progressively more difficult as children complete the stages. The final stage introduces symmetry. There is a fun surprise at the end.
