Using ‘behind’, ‘in front’, ‘between’ and ‘next to’

Activity: Simon Says

Gather together four favourite character toys. Explain that the toys are going to play a game and your child is going to put them in different places. Ask your child to:

- put the first toy behind the curtain.

- put the second toy in front of the fridge.

- put the third toy next to the chair.

- put the fourth toy between the adult and the child

Don’t forget to say ‘Simon says’ as you give out instructions. You can also use things around the room or work with items on a table (e.g. cup, book, a toy car). As an extended challenge, you can vary the prepositions and include ones tackled previously (e.g. ‘in’, ‘on’, ‘under’).
