Comparing quantities using ‘more’ and ‘less’ or ‘fewer’

Refer to the slides below to introduce the concepts of more and less/fewer when items are in an irregular arrangement. You can extend learning using real objects (e.g. small items) to check if your child understands how to compare quantities.

Activity #1: Comparing Drawings

Play a drawing game. On small pieces of paper, you can each draw lines, circles or squares. Then compare your pictures. Who drew more lines/circles/squares? Who drew fewer lines/circles/squares? Make sure to talk about your pictures using ‘more’ and ‘fewer’/‘less’.

Activity #2: Compare Objects to 5 or 10
