Friday 7th March

It's been another fantastic day today, especially as we have had a birthday celebration! We all loved tucking into the birthday chocolate cake!

The children have pushed themselves today to achieve their own goals and we could not be prouder of them. Every child has exceeded what they set out to achieve. The encouragement and support that they have given their friends has been amazing! We are proud and as parents I know you will be too.

We are soon off to camp fire, which will be a great way to spend our last evening.

More pictures will follow afterwards as we are waiting for I-pads to charge and to synch with each other!

Thursday 6th March

Thursday 6th March

All of the children have had a great nights sleep...some even needed to be woken up this morning.

Today the children will be taking part in buggy building, trapeze, problem solving and abseiling.

Pictures later on!

Wednesday 5th March

Wednesday 5th March

We had a great time last night playing Ambush around the site. Ambush is a giant game of hide and seek in teams of 20! Hiding in a bush with 20 others was great fun!

Today the children will be taking part in Jacob's Ladder, orienteering, giant swing and survivor! It is another frosty but sunny start! All children slept really well.

Tuesday 4th March

We have a brilliant day at Windmill! The sun has being shining and great fun has been had by all! (children and adults!!) The children have been fantastically behaved and this has been commented on by all leaders and instructors. The children have been encouraging and supportive towards each other, helping each other out and generally being super stars!

We are all going to sleep well tonight.

Tuesday 4th March

Tuesday 4th March

Good morning,

All the children went to bed exhausted but happy last night! Some rooms even turned off their lights before being asked!

They have had a great night sleep and we have woken up to a frosty Windmill Hill but it is going to be another glorious day.

All children will take part in the following activities today, rifle shooting, archery, aeroball and all aboard!

Our Differences Unite Us

We started this term with a day celebrating the many cultures that are represented at Westcourt Primary and Nursery School.

UK is a diverse country, so it is important that there is a space for all cultures to be celebrated and represented. This will help many young people in the UK, to have a sense of understanding on who they are, making their discovery on their overall identity, a smoother process.

Take a look at some of the work the children were completing during the day.

Online Safety For Years 5 and 6

On Thursday 29th April Years 5 and 6 will be taking part in an online safety workshop with Jonathan Taylor. This will be an extremely important sessions in which they will cover topics such as online identity, web cam usage, bullying but also how the internet can give the children lots of fun as well.

In the afternoon Jon will hold a zoom session for parents from 1.30-2.20. This session will cover topics such as the current dangers, twitch, periscope etc., positive posting digital tattoo, working with the school.  If, like me, you aren't sure what they are make sure you go to the workshop so you understand what your children might be using! He will also talk about Azoomee an online app that could help you at home as you navigate this tricky IT world as a family.

Karen will send out  zoom log in details on the day.

Please do join this important session.

Last Day of Home Learning!

Congratulations to you all, this is the last day of home learning and we will be back in school on Monday morning! I can’t wait to see you all and I know that you are all excited about seeing your friends again. I have loved all the photos, messages and waves you have given me during this time. Have a great last day and I will see you all on Monday!

PS: give you adults at home a massive hug for all they have done for you!

I am loving all the pictures of you dressed up for World Book Day! Keep sending them in.

Parents thank you for reminding me of other stories I read as a child as well. I had completely forgotten about Mrs Pepperpot!

Can you spot the teachers? Some are dressed up and others are reading in unusual places!

How many animals went into the ark?

Thank you for all your answers last week to this question. I loved the different ways in which you worked it out!

Simra, I love that you found 10 different combinations of animals that could go into the ark, great use of multiplication! Miss Marshall will be proud.

Jack, what a great use of IT skills to present your work. You set it out very systematically, Miss Hart and I love that! I’m not sure I would want to be on the ark with 100 snails!

Amelia, great use of your farm animals at home to show how you solved the problem.

Nikolai, what fantastic answers to the question if 12 feet went into the ark? I love the way you have used pictures and have clearly written your number sentences!

A school of bakers!

I have loved seeing so many of your pictures since you have been learning from home but there has been one familiar theme...baking! It’s a good job I can’t put weight on just from looking at your creations. We definitely have some contenders for the Great British Bake Off, maybe you could try Junior Bake Off.

Take a look at the talent we have at Westcourt!

Paul Klee

Artist Paul Klee said ‘a line is a dot that went for a walk’. This is often what happens with a doodle…you don’t plan to draw, your pencil just seems to wander off across the paper. This drawing is made from an almost unbroken line that makes a series of round-cornered boxes. The artist then added stick legs and eyes to make the shapes into a quirky character.

Why not have a go at taking a dot for a walk? Don’t plan your picture. Just let your pencil wander randomly. See what happens when you add eyes, arms and legs to your doodle.

Have a look at the link below.

https://www.tate.org.uk/kids/explore/top-5/top-5-doodles

Fantastic learning from the Dempster boys!
Harry wrote his first poem and made a recording of it for me to watch. It was brilliant! He had to draw himself as a baby surrounded by his favourite toys. He also drew kaleidoscope images based around the creation, dangers and luxuries of life and has also been learning how to subtract fractions.
Freddie wrote his very first book review, has met his AR target twice and has been completing 6-8 pages of work everyday.

keep up this amazing learning, we are all so proud of you!

Cooking at home!

Looked at this coconut cake baked with mummy. They talked about what ingredients were needed and what amounts. Eggs were cracked and they used an egg separator as they only needed the whites. It was mixed and flattened in a pan (it looked a bit like porridge from our goldilocks story). When it was cooked they put the frosting on top. It looks amazing!

Katelyn, Jessica and James have two cats called Ben and Jones. Ben is the fluffy one on the left and Jones is on the right. Ben is super laid back and meows when he wants food or to go outside  Jones is frightened of everything and runs away all the time. They love sitting together cuddling.

The weekend!

I love hearing about your weekend and what you have been up to!

Evie and Teddy have been keeping fit by going out on bike rides. They have also been exploring the woods as a family which is great fun!

Harriet has been horse riding, learning to thread the needle, around the world and trotting over poles! I loved the videos, they were amazing. What a great skill to learn!

Harry and his dad are taking part in the couch to 5K and they went out running this morning at 7am! Mum and Freddie had a great time with Joe Wicks!

I loved hearing that both boys have been busy working through their learning packs and activities on their class web page. They also watched the new BBC bitesize programmes that launched today on CBBC. Your teachers are going to link some of your learning to this but do check it out at

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/group/p093cv85

BBC Bitesize will be free for BT, Plusnet Mobile and EE customers without eating into your data allowance. The article below says

All contract and pay-as-you-go customers of BT Mobile, EE and Plusnet Mobile will be eligible and the free package will continue while schools remain closed. No registration is required - the free access will happen automatically.

See the article below.

Its great fun and you will learn lots.

Like everyone else I stayed at home this weekend except going out for some exercise! It was cold but beautiful. These are two pictures that I took.

Keep sending in your pictures to me as I love seeing them all!
