Welcome to Westcourt Primary Schools Nursery!
We are a 52 place nursery who offer 15 hours a week per child who are aged 3 and above, who can attend for a morning or afternoon session. Unfortunately we do not offer full time, 30 hours a week.
Morning session
8.45 to 11.45am
Afternoon Session
12.30 to 3.30pm
Daily Routine
A typical session in the nursery involves a combination of direct teaching and child initiated learning. We start our day with activities to support physical development such as our Wake Up and Shake Up session and our five-minute Funky Fingers challenges. We also include short bursts of literacy and maths sessions, which are adult-led. Children also have plenty of time for independent learning through play, where they can hone their social skills and make friends.

What to expect in the EYFS
Independence
One of the important skills we want our nursery children to develop is independence, including self-care. In order to do this, the children need to be confident in their own abilities. That will only happen if they get plenty of opportunities to look after themselves at school and elsewhere. We keep encouraging the children to attend to their needs in the classroom and hope you’ll do the same at home.
PE
Children have PE once a week as well as daily use of the outdoor area.
Home Learning Challenges!
On a Friday the children bring home a weekly home learning challenge. It includes learning challenges related to our topics that the parents and children can work on together. We post our home learning challenge on our class page on the school web site. We will update our class page regularly to include additional resources such as online games and practical activities that you can do at home to support your child’s learning.
We use Numberblocks as our foundation in teaching numbers and have aligned our approach to the NCETM guidelines. We look at a specific number each week in greater depth to develop the children’s number sense. We cover counting and cardinality, number patterns, composition (part-whole) and comparison.
