We welcome the parents/carers and children to the nursery. The children are encouraged to participate in self-registration.
We start our day with a fun and lively dance or a yoga session. Children learn easy routines that are designed to improve balance, coordination, rhythm and timing.
After we take the class register, the children participate in a daily five-minute fine motor activity to develop their finger/hand strength and control. The activity changes every week. In the later part of the school year, we start introducing name and number writing activities.
This is a teacher-led activity where children are introduced to new topics and learn new skills. It covers areas such as phonological awareness, art, investigation, the world around us and core books.
Learning time is our child-initiated session where children are encouraged to make decisions about what they want to do and what resources they will need, whether it is indoors or outdoors. It is their time to play, explore and try out their ideas and knowledge.
Children sit together and have a fruit and milk or water. It is a good time to promote independence and an ideal opportunity for both children and adults to have a chat about their day. Quiet time, which comes after snack, is when children are invited to explore our reading corner and browse a book or two.
Maths time is a teacher-led activity that focuses on numbers, space, shapes and measure. The children learn a variety of number skills including counting, subitising and comparing. Once a week, we have circle time, which includes musical games, cooperative games, talking and listening exercises, show and tell and a lot more!
Children are read a story every day. We also sing some of our favourite songs and nursery rhymes.
Children get ready to go home. Parents/carers arrive to collect them.
