Year 6 Residential 2026

Day 5 - Friday

And so, with a slightly heavy heart, everyone awoke this morning for the final morning of the Year 6 Residential.  There was lots to get done before breakfast - final packing, stripping the beds and putting all the luggage into the bag store. And then, after breakfast, it was off to our final activities. We ended the week with the much-anticipated Zipwire and Archery. The children loved feeling like they were flying and seriously impressed adults with their accuracy with a bow and arrow (watch out Robin Hood!). We finished with a packed lunch in the Sports Hall and after final goodbyes to our fantastic group leader Isaac it was time to climb aboard the minibuses for the journey home to school. All the children represented the school brilliantly with their behaviour, politeness and effort all week. Our group leader told us that all the PGL instructors were checking their activity lists each morning hoping they had one of the Westcourt groups (the highest praise we could wish for).

Day 4 - Thursday

Today was the last full day of the residential and we awoke to sunshine which we took as a good sign of a successful day ahead.  Our activities today were All Aboard, Survivor, Aeroball and Sensory Trail.  All aboard required more climbing skills to reach a small and very wobbly platform, Survivor was all about building shelters and lighting a campfire (which was very fun).  Aeroball was a very energetic game which was a mix of trampolining and basketball. Miss Tripp, Mr Trodd and James all had a go and enjoyed it greatly but they were all puffed out by the end of just a three-minute game!!  Finally, sensory trail required everyone to wear a blindfold to play games and follow a trail through the woods.  Good communication and use of your other senses was essential here.  The day finished off with camp fire including toasted marshmallows. Yum!  One more sleep and a morning of activities tomorrow and then it will be back on the minibuses to Gravesend and home!

Day 3 - Wednesday

In contrast to day 2, we woke up to mist (which gradually cleared into blue skies and sunshine as the day went on).  And today was another very full and active day!  Coach James from PE lessons at school also joined us for the day and the children were really pleased to see him.  Our activities today were abseiling, rifle shooting, climbing and orienteering.  Rifle shooting was a new experience for all the children and one they enjoyed greatly.  Some children were able to get very close to the centre of the target!  Abseiling required a lot of bravery and again, many children achieved more than they expected to be able to with this activity.  The skills the children had developed through the ropes activities so far really showed when we got to climbing - some children whizzed to the top of the climbing wall!  When orienteering, the children enjoyed reading the maps and looking for the hidden numbers - it felt a bit like a treasure hunt.  Dinner this evening was also popular - chicken nuggets!  The food has been really good and the centre has been excellent at offering alternatives when the children couldn’t find something they fancied on the menu.  After our evening activity of ‘Balloon Splash’, everyone fell into their beds for a much-needed rest, ready to recharge for Day 4!

Day 2 - Tuesday

We awoke to beautiful blue skies and after a hearty breakfast we were ready for the day ahead.  Our activities today were Jacob’s Ladder, Buggy Building, Trapeze and Fencing.  Lots of children achieved more than they expected with the climbing activities and they have been impressing the instructors so far with their great listening, effort and enthusiasm.  Our evening entertainment today was ‘Passport to the World’ where the children had to work in groups to read maps and find world flags around part of the site.  Everyone was more than ready for bed by the end of the day!

Day 1 - Monday

After a smooth journey everyone arrived at the centre and after settling down in the cabins it was straight on with today’s activities which were the Giant Swing and Problem Solving. After dinner the evening activity was PGL Games. Everyone is settling in well and looking forward to the week ahead!
