Year 4 Residential 2016
Wednesday
We arrived at about 3pm and played some fun games with some of the instructors. Then, we had a tour with our group leader who showed us everything we needed to know about the centre. Next, it was time to find our rooms and make the beds. This turned out to be quite a challenge!!
Once we were settled in, it was time for dinner! Yum! And then the real fun began - our first activity called Jungle Vines. The children got into their safety harnesses and crash helmets and after a safety talk began to climb poles and move across the balancing wires. Mr Trodd and Miss Fish were amazed with the bravery and climbing skills of the children!
Finally for day one, everyone had great fun with a variety of races in the Mini Olympics. There were hopping races, skipping races, wheelbarrow races and much more! After a delicious hot chocolate it was time to get ready for bed, to save up some energy for the next full day of activities.
What a great start! Here are just a few pictures (click to enlarge).
Thursday
Everyone was up early (much to the delight of Mr Trodd and Miss Fish!!) ready for breakfast and a full day of activities ahead. Our exciting menu of activities today was:
- Abseiling
- Fencing
- 3G Swing
- Indoor Initiative
- Aeroball
- Laser Tag
- Scrapheap Challenge
Once again the children amazed the teachers with their braveness in abseiling from the top of the tower. With fencing, the first thing we discovered was that it didn't involve any tins of creosote or fence posts and then the children took on the spirit of Zorro as they battled with jabs and lunges. 3G swing was a huge hit with everyone - particularly the expressions on faces as children (and adults!) started to fall. Everyone's brains were tested with problems and puzzles in the indoor initiative activity and then very different skills of trampolining and aiming were required to play Aeroball. Battling skills in the dark were required in the very exciting game of laser tag and then the long day was ended with Scrapheap Challenge. Part of this challenge involved making a capsule that could protect a water balloon. Because none of the capsules were successful, Miss Fish was able to choose an unlucky victim, take a spare water balloon and burst it over their head!!
What a great day! Everyone fell into bed ready for another good night's sleep!

Friday
We all awoke on the final morning feeling a bit tired, but after a good breakfast we were ready for our final two activities. We began by learning to fly on the zip line which was amazing fun! Even Miss Fish learnt to fly like Superman! And then, we went to the sports hall for our final activity of Climbing. The children put on their harnesses and had great fun challenging themselves to see how high up the wall they could get.
Finally, it was off to the lunch hall for our final meal and then back onto the minibuses and back to school.
What an amazing few days! Well done everyone!
